How do you get from San Jose to Miraflores Lodge? Miraflores Lodge is located in Playa Chiquita, 4 km south of Puerto Viejo toward Manzanillo, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is approximately a  4 hours drive from the Central Valley of Sam Jose. There are three main options for getting from San Jose to Miraflores: rental car, private shuttle bus or public bus.The fourth option is touring from San Jose

The drive takes you from the high central valley of San Jose, over the mountains through the cloud forest, across the continental divide, down east to the port of Limon and then south along the Caribbean coast.

Rental Car: Miraflores can reserve a rental car for pick up at the airport in San Jose or delivered to the Lodge.

Private Shuttle Van approx. $39.00 per person, departing San Jose at 7am will pick you up from any hotel in the San Jose vicinity and will bring you directly to Miraflores Lodge, arriving 4 hours later. Miraflores Lodge can  make a reservation for you on this private shuttle bus. The shuttle bus is more comfortable than the public bus and there are fewer passengers. If your flight arrives too late to come directly to the Lodge, a reservation in a Central Valley hotel can be arranged for you.

MEPE Public Bus ($9.00) departs from the Caribbean Bus Terminal in San Jose to Puerto Viejo at 6 am, 10 am, 2 pm and 4pm. A 12 pm a bus from San Jose to Manzanillo will bring you right to the door of the hotel.  It is a short taxi ride from the village of Puerto Viejo to the Lodge,  C3000 or $6.00. Miraflores Lodge can arrange to have a taxi meet you .in Puerto Viejo if you cannot make the 12pm bus

Where is the Beach? Playa Chiquita Beach a scenic few minutes walk down a jungle path and all along this Caribbean coast  there are coral ponds and a beautiful  swimming bay in Punta Uva.

How do we move around from the Lodge? Walking our interesting neighborhood where there are small Cafe/Restaurant and small gourmet grocery.

Bikes can be rented hour. A typical daily rate is $5.00. Besides a rental car, there are scooters, four wheelers, golf carts to rent; taxis and buses are also available.

Is Internet available? Yes, Miraflores Lodge now has fast Internet service and Wireless available in most all the rooms. A common area with our library also has cable t.v. as well as wi-fi.

Where is the Beach? A 500 meter walk to Playa Chiquita Beach, or enjoy a scenic beach walk for 1km to exotic Punta Uva swimming bay.

What does Miraflores have? Here at Miraflores we have our Gardens, Labyrinth,  Medicinal Plant walk, edible landscaping, libraries, Garden Rancho (a common space for recreation), outdoor bath houses, hammocks, exercise area, ponds, botanical gardens with fruiting and flowering trees. Often we also visited by howler monkeys and sloths, not to mention Blue Morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and many more.

Can I go from Miraflores Lodge to Panama? It is a short trip from Puerto Viejo to Panama via Sixaola, Costa Rica to Chanquinola, Panama. Over a newly completed short cut it is only a a half an hour trip. The trip includes the border crossing at the Sixola River with the attendant delays of this process.  There is  tour which will take you from the Lodge to Bocas Island.We help arrange a two ocean, two country tour to return to Costa Rica on the Pacific coast for special interests: surfing, botanical gardens, indigenous cultures in both countries. (No rental cars can cross the borders: better to rent here in Puerto Viejo and drop off at the border; travel by bus, airplane or rent a car in Panama.)
